How will you support them?

With Grandpa & Grandma Haskell leaving on a mission in a few short weeks, our family has been talking about how we can support them while they are away.   Our family members made a goal of writing either on this blog or in an email to Elder and Sister Haskell once a month.  As much as we are on the computer, this shouldn't be tough.

We talked about things like remembering them in our prayers, sending letters or emails and we had quite a few suggestions of stuff to send in a care package.  (If at all possible, Jordan and Jared want to send Grandpa & Grandma some take-a-ways from Tucanos, the Bean Game, pizza, 2 t-sirts that say "My Grandson Jared is Awesome" and two chocolate Frostys from Wendy's. We will have to get back to you on that one.)

Joshua said he will miss talking with Grandpa and target practice.  The kids are still in awe of Lynn's shooting skills and plan on practicing while they are gone in New York, so grandpa will be impressed when he gets back home.   Lindsey said she'll miss shooting with Grandpa too!  She is a good shot and claims it must be that she is a better shot than her brothers because,
1- Lynn was a good teacher
2-her name is like grandpa's so she inherited his skills.
FACT!
She will miss the hugs and smiles from Grandma and still sings all the little  songs she taught her when Lindsey was just a little girl.  All of us had so many nice things to say, we decided to take turns writing them down on this blog so they can read for themselves how proud we are and how much we love them.  Thinking of not getting a hug from them for quite a while was a sobering thought, so we are hoping to visit them next summer.
Maybe even schedule in a trip to the Hill Cumorah Pagent!

Brian & I have been so blessed to come back home to the states and have our children get to hang out and enjoy being with Brian's parents.  Our kids actually want to call and  ask to do things with Grandpa and Grandma!  Who knew people over 60 could be so cool?!  And funny!  Just ask our kids, they think their grandparents are hilarious! We all agreed that when it comes to Grandparents, our family hit the jackpot.  (and we didn't have to drive to Idaho to buy a ticket!)

What will you miss, what do you love or how have you been blessed by knowing Lynn & Karen?  What is fun memory you have?   What can your family do to share in experience of having loved ones serve a mission?  How will you support them while they serve our Heavenly Father in Palmyra, New York?   Leave your comments for them below!

Palmyra New York Temple

The Palmyra New York Temple is the 77th operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The site for the Palmyra New York Temple, atop a wooded hill in pastoral western New York, is in an area prominent in the early history of the Latter Day Saint Movement. Nearby is the grove of trees known as the Sacred Grove in which the founder and first prophet of the Church, Joseph Smith, Jr., reported having a vision in which he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ, and event known as the First Vision. The temple grounds, on the border between the towns of Manchester and Palmyra, are also on the grounds of the original Smith Family Farm. The Church itself was organized only thirty miles away inFayette, New York in 1830.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, held May 25, 1999, the Church President at the time Gordon B. Hinckley commented on the area's rich history, saying that it was in that locale that Mormonism truly began. President Hinckley also marveled at how much the Church had grown since its founding in 1830.
Local reaction to the new temple was positive[citation needed] and more than 30,700 visitors toured the new temple before its dedication. The temple serves about 18,000 members within seven stakes, or groups of Mormon congregations. The Palmyra New York Temple was dedicated on 6 April 2000, the 170th anniversary of the organization of the Church. While only about 1,200 members attended the dedicatory sessions within the temple itself nearly 1.5 million members took part through media broadcasts throughout the United States and Canada.
The Palmyra New York Temple has a total of 10,700 square feet (990 m2), two ordinance rooms, and two sealing rooms. The exterior is white marble. Forty art glass windows inside the temple depict local events in LDS Church history. A gold statue of the angel Moroni tops the single spire. Beautiful carved cherry wood railings, wainscoting, and moldings line the halls, along with hand-sculpted carpeting.

Called to Serve

March 26, 2012
We are excited about this missionary call to serve in Palmyra as temple missionaries. It is a special honor to serve at Palmyra, the birthplace of the restoration of the Gospel and the Book of Mormon.

It is a privilege to serve as a temple missionary in that lovely temple overlooking the Sacred Grove and The Joseph Smith Farm.  What a blessing it is to have a temple there.  We will be serving for eighteen months and go into the MTC on April 30th.
We have strong testimonies of this work, and will do all in our power to accomplish our assignments in a way pleasing to the Lord.  We will strive to listen to and so be guided by the Spirit.  We want to be a part of this His Gospel going throughout the world and participate in the gathering of Israel.
With love,
Lynn & Karen Haskell
