How will you support them?

With Grandpa & Grandma Haskell leaving on a mission in a few short weeks, our family has been talking about how we can support them while they are away.   Our family members made a goal of writing either on this blog or in an email to Elder and Sister Haskell once a month.  As much as we are on the computer, this shouldn't be tough.

We talked about things like remembering them in our prayers, sending letters or emails and we had quite a few suggestions of stuff to send in a care package.  (If at all possible, Jordan and Jared want to send Grandpa & Grandma some take-a-ways from Tucanos, the Bean Game, pizza, 2 t-sirts that say "My Grandson Jared is Awesome" and two chocolate Frostys from Wendy's. We will have to get back to you on that one.)

Joshua said he will miss talking with Grandpa and target practice.  The kids are still in awe of Lynn's shooting skills and plan on practicing while they are gone in New York, so grandpa will be impressed when he gets back home.   Lindsey said she'll miss shooting with Grandpa too!  She is a good shot and claims it must be that she is a better shot than her brothers because,
1- Lynn was a good teacher
2-her name is like grandpa's so she inherited his skills.
FACT!
She will miss the hugs and smiles from Grandma and still sings all the little  songs she taught her when Lindsey was just a little girl.  All of us had so many nice things to say, we decided to take turns writing them down on this blog so they can read for themselves how proud we are and how much we love them.  Thinking of not getting a hug from them for quite a while was a sobering thought, so we are hoping to visit them next summer.
Maybe even schedule in a trip to the Hill Cumorah Pagent!

Brian & I have been so blessed to come back home to the states and have our children get to hang out and enjoy being with Brian's parents.  Our kids actually want to call and  ask to do things with Grandpa and Grandma!  Who knew people over 60 could be so cool?!  And funny!  Just ask our kids, they think their grandparents are hilarious! We all agreed that when it comes to Grandparents, our family hit the jackpot.  (and we didn't have to drive to Idaho to buy a ticket!)

What will you miss, what do you love or how have you been blessed by knowing Lynn & Karen?  What is fun memory you have?   What can your family do to share in experience of having loved ones serve a mission?  How will you support them while they serve our Heavenly Father in Palmyra, New York?   Leave your comments for them below!

  1. Grandma and Grandpa will be coming closer to us!!!!!! I know we are all excited about their mission! They will be excellent missionaries. Love you both Grandma and Grandpa Haskell! I still remember Grandma teaching Christian how to read then when she left she told me to practice with him everyday. I did and today he reads almost everyday(like a lot!)And he loves reading too! Hes working on Harry Potter right now and loves it! My dad always tells me stories of him as a kid and how when he was on a mission he got a picture of Kristen as a baby in their laundry basket! So many great memories with you that I will never forget! Hope the best for you on your mission! Love and miss you both! :)

  2. Love the pictures of your trek east - seeing so many loved ones along the way! It was wonderful to see you in Indy. You both were so energetic, with the vigor that accompanies missionaries. I look forward to seeing you in July in Palmyra! Meanwhile, we pray for you daily.
